Debris from a Russian Drone Falls on NATO Country Romania After Ukrainian Port Attack
Debris from a Russian drone was found in NATO country Romania after a recent attack on a Ukrainian port on the Danube river, according to Romanian Defense Minister Angel Tîlvăr. The incident has further heightened tensions in the region, raising concerns over the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
“We covered a very large area, including the area about which there were discussions in the public space and I confirm that pieces were found that could be a drone,” Tîlvăr stated on Wednesday, as reported by local media outlet Antena 3 CNN.
Russia has been bombarding Ukrainian ports along the Danube river ever since President Vladimir Putin withdrew from the Black Sea grain deal. Missiles and killer drones have frequently landed near the Romanian border, posing a threat to neighboring countries.
The Ukrainian government announced on Monday that Russian debris had fallen on Romanian territory following a recent attack. However, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis vehemently denied these claims.
This incident is not the first time that NATO has been faced with the repercussions of Russian aggression. Last November, the alliance held crisis talks after a missile landed in Poland. At the time, US President Joe Biden expressed doubts that the missile was launched by Russia.
Under Article 5 of NATO’s treaties, member countries such as Romania and Poland are protected by the entire alliance. This article states that an attack on one member will be considered an attack on all members, signaling a united front against any hostile actions.
