Major department stores such as Lotte, Shinsegae (004170), Hyundai, and Galleria will be closed on the first day of the new year.
As some branches of large supermarkets, discount stores, and complex malls are open, shoppers need to check whether the stores are open.
According to the industry on the 31st, Lotte Department Store, Shinsegae Department Store, Hyundai Department Store (069960), and Galleria Department Store will close all branches on January 1, the first day of the new year.
In the case of the 31st, the closing time was extended due to the closure on the next day (January 1), but this year, the store will close at the same time as before.
Some Lotte Outlets stores are open. Eight suburban outlets (Lotte Premium Outlets Dongbusan/Gimhae/Giheung/Icheon/Paju/Uiwang, Lotte Outlets Isiapolis/Buyeo) and four urban outlets (Suwan, Cheongju, Jinju, Gunsan) are operating normally.
The Hyundai Seoul is closed, but all Hyundai Premium Outlet branches and Connect Hyundai are open. Starfield is also open at all branches.
In the case of large supermarkets, E-Mart (139480), Lotte Mart, and all Homeplus branches are operating normally. However, in line with the national mourning period, existing New Year’s events will be held as scheduled, but additional promotions, etc., will be refrained.
An industry official said, “The discount event itself was planned, so we will proceed as is, but we are refraining from customer promotion and marketing related to the event,” and added, “We are not considering extending business hours, etc.”
