For Deportivo Cali, the continental dream ended last Sunday after being beaten (3-0) in the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores Femenina against Independiente del Valle at the Arsenio Erico stadium in Asunción (Paraguay).
It was Ecuadorian forward Nayeli Bolaños who scored all of her team’s goals against the sugar team. The 21-year-old young attacker scored four goals in the competition and was one of the top scorers.
In the first half hour of the game, the ones led by Jhon Alber Ortiz were already two goals down. It was difficult for them to recover and the poor condition of the pitch didn’t help either. Before the break, Ledys Calvo retired injured.
Bolaños’ last score, through a penalty in the 74th minute, agreed to eliminate Cali, which could not show the same version he had in the group stage. Forwards Ingrid Guerra and Yésica Muñoz worried the Ecuadorian defense, but it was not enough to score a goal.
The sugar team could not rely on the goalkeeper Luisa Agudelo in this tournament, a figure of the Colombian youth teams, who was called up to the U-17 World Cup. It was a significant loss for the reigning BetPlay Women’s League champions.
Earlier this Sunday, Santa Fe was the only Colombia to qualify for the semi-finals of the Copa Libertadores Femenina 2024 against Alianza Lima (2-0) at the Arsenio Erico stadium in Asunción (Paraguay).
The lions beat the Peruvian team with goals from Natalia Gaitán from Bogotá and Karla Torres from Valle del Cauca. Independiente del Valle will be their opponents in the next round. This game is scheduled for next Wednesday, October 16.
