Fall River to Host Free Outdoor Movie Series This Summer

The Fall River Housing Authority is bringing family-friendly entertainment to local communities with a series of free outdoor movie screenings throughout July and August. The initiative aims to provide accessible recreation for residents, fostering community spirit with beloved films under the stars.

Blockbuster Lineup Announced for 2025

The outdoor movie night series will kick off on July 14th at Pleasant View with a screening of “Dog Man,” an animated adventure based on the popular “Captain Underpants” series. The film tells the story of an unlikely hero created from a K-9 officer and his canine partner.

Here’s a complete schedule of the planned screenings:

  • July 14, Pleasant View: “Dog Man”
  • July 21, Father Diaferio Village: “Wicked” – a musical adaptation of the Gregory Maguire novel and Broadway hit, offering a fresh perspective on the “Wizard of Oz” tale.
  • Aug. 4, Sunset Hill: “Moana 2,” the highly anticipated sequel to the Disney musical adventure.
  • Aug. 11, Heritage Heights: “Snow White,” a live-action reimagining of the classic Disney animated film starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot.
  • Aug. 18, Maple Gardens: “Inside Out 2,” Pixar’s latest animated feature exploring the emotional landscape of a 13-year-old girl.

Event Details and Accessibility

According to the Fall River Housing Authority, each event will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with the movie beginning promptly at 8 p.m. The screenings are free and open to the public, requiring no tickets for admission. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs for comfortable seating.

SouthCoast Film Activity Extends Beyond Fall River

The buzz around film extends beyond the free screenings. A Tiverton resident recently scouted the set of an M. Night Shyamalan movie filming in Little Compton, highlighting the growing presence of the film industry in the SouthCoast region.

Furthermore, a deleted scene from “Wicked” has recently surfaced, revealing the initial reaction to Prince Fiyero’s arrival at Shiz University and its impact on Galinda, portrayed by Ariana Grande.

The combination of accessible community events and larger film productions underscores a vibrant summer for entertainment in the region.
