Diver finds 900-year-old crusader sword off the coast of Israel

by time news

Off the coast of Israel’s Haifa, an amateur diver discovered a sword that could have belonged to the Knights of the Crusader. According to the BBC, the object is estimated to be 900 years old.

This shallow water has been studied by archaeologists for a long time, since as far back as the Bronze Age, it is believed that there was an anchorage for ships, and later the water area was also used during the Crusades as a shelter from the storm.

Presumably, the sword could not be found before, as it could have been buried under a layer of sand. It is known that in this section of the bottom the movement of sands is quite active.

Currently, the find is covered with a layer of molluscs and polyps. Archaeologists intend to cleanse the sword and expose it to the public.
