Diversified products are needed for capital market development: CSE Chairman

Chairman of Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) AKM Habibur Rahman said, we need diversified products for the development of our capital market. Our capital market will be enriched as well as bigger by adding new assets.

He said these things in a discussion meeting titled ‘Business development from the point of view of commodity exchange‘ for members of CSE brokerage house or TREK last Tuesday (October 15) at the head office in Chittagong.

CSE’s newly appointed chairman AKM Habibur Rahman was the chief guest in the meeting. Besides, the director of CSE was also present. Rezaul Islam, Managing Director M Saifur Rahman Majumdar, Chief Regulatory Officer Mohammad Mahadi Hasan and other officials of CSE.

CSE Chairman AKM Habibur Rahman said in the speech of the chief guest that, like other countries in the world, we need diversified products for the development of the capital market. Our capital market will be enriched as well as bigger by adding new assets.

CSE is working to establish the first commodity exchange in Bangladesh and I feel proud to be associated with it and I hope we can complete the work of setting up the exchange very well very soon. And through this we can form a dynamic capital market.

Managing Director M Saifur Rahman Majumder said that the work of creating the technical infrastructure for setting up the commodity exchange is almost over. The relevant regulation has been submitted to the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission for approval, which is expected to be approved soon. The important task now is to properly prepare the market and the market participants i.e. to continue the series of awareness programs and training to properly prepare those who will join the exchange. For that purpose CSE is working and conducting series of activities. We hope that with the full and spontaneous cooperation of all, we will be able to efficiently complete the task of setting up a well-organized commodity exchange in a very short time.

Convenor, Commodity Exchange Project gave a presentation on regulatory, business and technology related issues in the meeting. Mortuza Alam, Member Secretary, Commodity Exchange Project Faisal Huda and Manager, IT Syed Mahmood Moin.

118 representatives of various TREK members of CSE participated in the discussion and gave their views.
