Choi Tae-won and Noh So-young meet for the first time after their divorce was finalized… Military ceremonies throughout the wedding
In particular, on this day, Chairman Choi and Director Roh met for the first time after their divorce was finalized. Apart from the ongoing legal battle over property division, they sat side by side at the wedding table and played the role of parents for their children’s new start.
Last May, the 2nd Division of Family Affairs of the Seoul High Court ruled that Chairman Choi must pay Director Roh 1.380817 trillion won and 2 billion won in alimony as property division. This is 20 times the amount recognized by the first trial as 66.5 billion won for property division and 100 million won as alimony. Currently, Chairman Choi has filed an appeal against the property division ruling and is awaiting a Supreme Court hearing. However, since both parties agreed to the ruling of ‘divorce’ excluding property division, the divorce is in fact finalized.
In 2015, Chairman Choi disclosed his intention to divorce Director Roh and that he had a child out of wedlock through a media outlet. Considering that they had previously been separated, it was the first time in about 20 years that the seal had been stamped.
Minjeong’s prospective groom, Chinese-American Kevin Hwang, was born in Indiana, USA, graduated from Harvard University and Stanford University with an MBA, and served as an officer in the US Marine Corps. He also served as a member of the U.S. Forces Korea at the Pyeongtaek U.S. military base for about a year in 2020. He is currently in the reserve force and is running a software-related startup, and he plans to return to active duty soon and work in the U.S. Special Forces.
Minjeong volunteered to join the Navy as a cadet in 2014. Following his deployment to the Gulf of Aden as part of the Cheonghae Unit in 2015, he performed duties at the Navy’s 2nd Fleet Command, which protects the Northern Limit Line (NLL) at the forefront of the West Sea in 2016.
It is said that Minjeong and Kevin Hwang lived as neighbors in the United States and quickly became closer based on their commonality of military service experience. For this reason, a ‘Missing Man Table’ was set up on one side of the wedding hall on this day, making use of the traditional US military ceremony. A rose, a slice of lemon, and a candle were placed on a white table to commemorate missing or dead soldiers. It was also reported that during the wedding ceremony, a moment of silence was held in remembrance for the Korean-American comrades.
