DMK Alliance Seat Sharing: Parties Seek More Seats Ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha Elections

by time news

With the Lok Sabha elections barely two months away, some parties’ alliances are still undecided. But several months ago, its allies had announced that they would ‘travel together with the DMK’. However, seat sharing with DMK is the only drag. In particular, most of the parties are asking for more seats than DMK is offering.

CPM, CPI, Kongu National People’s Party and Indian Muslim League are the only parties in the DMK alliance that have ended the negotiations smoothly. In particular, it has been decided that CPM and CPI will have 2 constituencies each. It is not confirmed in which constituency they are contesting. IUML parties have been finalized to contest in Ramanathapuram and Kongunadu People’s National Party nomination.

Why this drag? – Each party is trying to get more seats from DMK with different reasons. In particular, while DMK has offered to allocate 6 constituencies to Congress in Tamil Nadu, as the party leading the India Alliance, Selvaperundagai, who has taken over as the new leader, is trying to get more constituencies to prove his mettle. As a result, Congress is asking for almost 13 seats from DMK.

Likewise, the LTTE has also held a high-level meeting at this time of seat-sharing talks with the DMK. It has been decided not to sign the seat allocation if DMK wants to allocate less than the number of constituencies proposed by Vishika.

Party leader Thirumavalavan also said, “We demanded 3 separate constituencies and 1 general constituency. But DMK did not agree to that. Thus, we have requested to allocate 3 blocks. We are not going to back down from the block number we are asking for,” he said categorically.

Likewise, the Madhyamik too lost its status as a recognized party and has been traveling since 2006. This time he has decided to win two Lok Sabha constituencies and increase his vote bank with a unique symbol especially his party’s own symbol Bambaram. Due to this, they are also hearing two blocks and holding them in conflict. But, DMK has decided to reserve one seat.

Apart from this, Kamal Haasan’s People’s Justice Center is also demanding allocation of two constituencies, pointing out that it contested alone in most of the city last time and came third in several constituencies. It also plans to stand on its own logo. However, DMK has offered to allocate only one constituency.

Thus, those who contested in the last Lok Sabha constituencies are asking for additional constituencies. In this, the two parties, the Humanity People’s Party and the Tamil Nadu Life Rights Party, which formed a new alliance with the DMK and won in the last assembly, have requested the DMK to allocate one Lok Sabha seat each.

DMK has planned to contest more constituencies this time than last time, specifically 25 constituencies. But it has become a big headache for the DMK as the alliance parties have taken a different route, completely destroying the DMK account.

If the DMK completes the seat allocation according to the DMK alliance parties, DMK will be able to contest only 13 constituencies in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Let’s wait and see how the DMK will fix the alliance parties after finding a solution to this.
