In the debate held today in the Lok Sabha of the Parliament, DMK MP and former minister A. Raza spoke furiously. He said in the Lok Sabha,
Gujarat model? The Dravidian model?
“What is the Gujarat model? So what’s the point. Our Chief Minister spoke about the Dravidian model in the presence of the Prime Minister. Decide for yourself which model you want. Let me give you an example of what happened during question time yesterday. In the list of states with the highest number of people living below the poverty line this year, Gujarat has 22 percent and Uttar Pradesh 31 percent.
I have not read the list of all states. Do you know where Tamilnadu is in this list? Tamil Nadu has 14 percent and Kerala 10 percent. This is the Dravidian model. I will close with an important piece of information. What happened in today’s question time? The minister has replied. 1810 crores was earmarked for the minorities last year. But in the current year, it has come down to 610 crores. What message do you want to convey to minority people? This is unfortunate. This is particularly dangerous for minority populations.
Case of Kesavananda Bharati:
In the Kesavananda Bharati case, a 13-judge bench heard the case for 68 days and ruled that the fundamentals of the Indian Constitution cannot be changed. Baldiwala, a famous lawyer who appeared in the case, wrote a letter to the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The letter states that the basis of the Constitution is the real shield of protection of the minority population. They fear that their birthright may be changed.
We have preserved the basis of the Constitution today. How many future followers will you have with a similar non-sectarian outlook? He had written questioning that.

Today the funding for the welfare of minorities has been greatly reduced. I take a bow. I am begging you. PM Modi is not here. I pray though. Please save the constitution. The first line of the Constitution says that we are Indians.” Thus he spoke.
