DMK MP’s ‘Ko Muthra states’ comment stirs controversy

New Delhi: The debate in the Lok Sabha yesterday took an unexpected turn when DMK MP from Dharmapuri Constituency, Senthilkumar, made contentious remarks about the Hindi speaking states.

During the debate, Senthilkumar stated, “BJP wins elections only in Hindi speaking states, which we commonly call cow gomiya states (‘Ko Muthra’ states). This is BJP’s strength. But the party cannot win in the elections held in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.”

Senthilkumar’s comments have sparked controversy and debate, with many people sharing the video of his speech on social media. This is not the first time that Senthilkumar has made such remarks, as in 2022, he had referred to the Hindi-speaking states as Go Mootra states during a debate on the National Education Policy.

In response to the controversy, Tamil Nadu BJP Vice President Narayanan Tirupathi criticized Senthilkumar’s remarks, stating, “It is a shame that the party that lives by drinking the sweat of the working Tamil people and making a living through corruption is making fun of the Hindi speaking states.”

However, in light of the backlash, DMK MP Dr. Senthilkumar issued an apology on social media. He stated, “Commenting on the results of the 5 state legislative assembly elections that have been held, I have used a word to convey a wrong meaning. Not using that term with any intent, I sincerely apologize because it gives a wrong meaning.”

The remarks made by Senthilkumar have sparked a heated debate and raised questions about the use of derogatory language in political discourse.
