Edoardo Bove’s collapse on the pitch shocked the football world. Now there was some hope-giving news from the doctors.
Cautious all-clear for edoardo bove: After his sudden collapse without outside influence in the top game of Serie A, the 22-year-old is “awake, conscious and oriented,” as his club AC Fiorentina announced on Monday. An “acute damage to the central nervous and cardiovascular systems” can be ruled out.
“He spoke to his family, the club management, the coach and his teammates, who all instantly rushed to him when they heard the good news,” Fiorentina added. “Further tests will be carried out over the next few days to find out what led to the critical situation.”
Also at Bove’s request, Florence will play in the cup game against Empoli on Wednesday. “He convinced his teammates to play on Wednesday, so we will do that as we want to get back to normal life,” Fiorentina general director Alessandro Ferrari said outside the hospital.
Numerous people had previously expressed their support for Bove on social networks. Robin Gosens, who helped with first aid, wrote: “Fight, brother.” Fifa boss Gianni Infantino also spoke up: “The big family of world football is united at your side.”
The game against Inter Milan was interrupted when the score was 0-0, then officially canceled a short time later. The game is to be repeated or continued at an as yet unknown date.
