A tragic dog attack in Dawson city, Yukon, has resulted in the death of one dog and prompted an inquiry by the Dawson City RCMP and City of Dawson Bylaw Services. Authorities are currently searching for the animal responsible,described as a black-and-white Thai ridgeback pitbull.
Community Alert Following January 17th Incident
The City of Dawson municipal government issued a community safety notice on January 18 via Facebook, alerting residents to the incident that occurred in the town’s north end near the intersection of Duke Street and Sixth Avenue on January 17. According to the city’s post, bylaw and police responded to reports of one dog attacking and killing another.
Investigation Underway, Suspect Dog Remains at Large
As of the morning of January 19, the suspect dog has not been located. A senior official stated that the dog has not been reported as being at large since the initial incident and is currently not considered an “active threat to public safety.” However, authorities are continuing their investigation.
Precautions Advised for Residents
the city’s safety notice urges community members to exercise increased caution when outdoors, especially while walking with pets and children. Residents are advised to be especially vigilant in low visibility conditions and when traversing yards, porches, and alleys. “This situation is understandably upsetting,” reads the post, reflecting the community’s concern.
