- Fenerbahce – Manchester United 1-1 (0-1)
The home team equalized with Christian Eriksen‘s impressive shot shortly after the break. Youssef En-Nesyri had both time and space and headed the ball past André Onana after passive defending.
A few minutes later, the home team wanted a penalty but were not heard. That’s when the chaos started. An enraged José Mourinho eventually received a red card from referee Clement Turpin and was thus sent up to the stands.
The Portuguese smiled and laughed during the game and with players at halftime, but the smile quickly turned into a frown and disbelief. He understood little of the referee’s decision and took a while to leave the bench.
– I do not want to talk about it, Mourinho told TNT Sports regarding the decision before revealing a conversation with the referee after the match.
– He told me something incredible. He says he could see my behavior on the sidelines while also watching what was happening in the box. I congratulated him on that fantastic sight. It happened at 160 kilometers per hour, but he had one eye on the box and one eye on the bench. That’s why he is one of the best referees in the world, the Portuguese said sarcastically.
– It’s becoming embarrassingly frequent for similar incidents, said Tor Ole Skullerud in the Viaplay studio.

No Winner
A pressured Mourinho faced his old club tonight. According to Turkish media, the manager is living on borrowed time after poor results and a bad atmosphere within the team.
The last performance tonight certainly won’t help that.
United manager Erik ten Hag, on his part, has faced criticism this season, with many questioning whether he would be finished in his job before the international break. He is under scrutiny in every match he leads the Reds.
It was two managers with their backs against the wall who met in the cauldron of Istanbul – and in the star duel, there were only losers in the end. United stands with 0-3-0 in the Europa League and desperately needs a win.
Tragedy: Deceased
Beautiful Goal
Christian Eriksen has found his scoring form this season and did not disappoint when he got the chance again tonight. The Dane finished a magnificent counterattack by hammering the ball into the corner from around 15 meters.
At the same time, United was lucky to go into halftime with a lead, as goalkeeper André Onana made an incredible double save that had many gasping in disbelief – including Mourinho.
– José Mourinho cannot believe it! said former goalkeeper Paul Robinson in the BBC studio.
– He delivered two fantastic saves, said Mourinho.
The home team equalized shortly after the break, but there were no more goals in Turkey.
P.S. Manchester United’s Antony had to leave the field on a stretcher just before the end.
