At the Milan Motorcycle Show, Ducati ushers in a new era for its twin-cylinder models, unveiling the new Panigale V2 and Streetfighter V2 bikes, the first bikes in the range to feature the new V2 engine. In fact, both Ducatis are equipped with the 90 ° V2 with variable distribution timing for the intake valves, Euro5+ approved, 890 cc and 120 hp; due to its weight, only 54.5 kg (9.4 kg less than the Superquadro it represents) it is the lightest twin cylinder ever produced by the Borgo Panigale company; with 70% of the maximum torque available already at 3 thousand rpm, it ensures that driving is always exciting, even on the road. Three Power Modes are available for the Panigale and Streetfighter V2: High, Medium and Low, with 95 hp; in addition, both motorcycles will be available in the 35 kW version for A2 licensees.
The Ducati Panigale V2 was designed starting from a blank sheet of paper: also thanks to the new 90 ° Ducati V2 engine and the monocoque frame (just 4 kg weight), it is the lightest Panigale ever: the weight is in running order without fuel . 179 kg (15 less), 175 for the S version. The design is inspired by that of the Panigale V4, with a full steering headlight with double DRL that gives it the same “look”. The design of the tank, which has been studied in size and surfaces to support the driver in a sporty drive, recalls that of its larger four-cylinder sister, but adapted to the new mechanical base and the different ergonomic triangle. In fact, the Panigale V2 was created to be used also on the road: thus the footrest-seat-handlebar triangle was defined with the aim of reducing the burden on the wrists while maintaining a great feeling on the side front and corner. When riding on the road, then, the new Panigale V2 is the easiest and most enjoyable Ducati sports car ever.
The Streetfighter V2 is the exposed version of the same principle as the Panigale V2, with which it shares the chassis based on the very light monocoque frame: it is exhilarating exposed on the road and high performance on the circuit. Weighing only 175 kg (18 less than the previous model), it has a wide and high handlebar that helps sport riding but makes everyday riding easier. The Streetfighter V2 is therefore an agile motorcycle that is at the same time stable and tough at high speeds, performing just as well as its predecessor between curbs but more pleasant and fun on the road and in everyday use.
The new Panigale will arrive at dealerships in the V2 and V2 S versions at the end of January 2025, in Ducati Red livery only, while the Streetfighter V2 will be available from the end of March 2025.
Time.news Editor: Welcome to our special segment on the latest innovations in the motorcycle world. Today, we’re excited to interview [Expert’s Name], a renowned automotive engineer and motorcycle aficionado. We’re diving deep into the recent unveiling of Ducati’s new twin-cylinder models, the Panigale V2 and Streetfighter V2, at the Milan Motorcycle Show. Welcome, [Expert’s Name]!
Expert: Thank you! It’s great to be here and talk about these exciting new models from Ducati.
Editor: Let’s jump right in! Ducati has introduced their new V2 engine in both the Panigale V2 and Streetfighter V2. What can you tell us about the significance of this new engine design?
Expert: Absolutely! The new 90° V2 engine is a game-changer for Ducati. It’s designed with variable distribution timing for the intake valves and is Euro5+ approved. This means not only is it more efficient, but also incredibly powerful with 120 hp and a weight reduction of 9.4 kg compared to its predecessor. The lightweight nature of the engine plays a significant role in the overall dynamics of the bike, making it the lightest twin-cylinder Ducati has ever produced.
Editor: That’s impressive! You mentioned the bike’s weight—how does that influence riding performance on the road?
Expert: Weight is crucial in motorcycle design. The Panigale V2, with a curb weight of just 179 kg and an even lighter S version at 175 kg, provides a more agile and responsive riding experience. Additionally, 70% of the maximum torque is available at just 3,000 rpm, making acceleration and handling immensely exciting, whether on the track or street. Riders benefit from this responsiveness, especially in various riding conditions.
Editor: Ducati also introduced three Power Modes: High, Medium, and Low. How do these modes enhance the riding experience?
Expert: The three Power Modes allow riders to tailor the bike’s performance to their preferences and skill levels. The High mode unleashes full power, perfect for experienced riders wanting a performance rush. Medium and Low modes, on the other hand, limit output to 95 hp, making it more accessible for those who may be less experienced or simply prefer a smoother ride. This adaptability is key, especially as Ducati aims to attract a wider range of motorcyclists, including A2 licensees.
Editor: The ergonomics of the Panigale V2 have also been updated for a more comfortable experience. Could you elaborate on those changes?
Expert: Definitely! The design of the bike focuses on reducing strain on the wrists while riding. The footrest-seat-handlebar triangle has been optimized to provide a better riding posture, making it not just about sporty performance, but about comfort during longer rides, too. This holistic approach means that riders can enjoy the thrill of a sports bike without compromising on comfort, making the Panigale V2 one of the easiest Ducatis to ride for both novice and experienced riders.
Editor: Fascinating! Now, let’s touch on the aesthetic aspect. How does the design reflect its heritage while adapting to modern needs?
Expert: The Panigale V2 certainly pays homage to its predecessor, the Panigale V4, with sharp lines and the full steering headlight featuring double DRLs. However, it has been updated to suit its new mechanical base. The shape of the tank and the overall bodywork not only contribute to the aggressive sports aesthetic but also enhance aerodynamics and rider comfort. It’s a prime example of how Ducati blends tradition with innovation.
Editor: It sounds like the Panigale V2 and Streetfighter V2 are setting new standards in the motorcycle industry. What should potential buyers be most excited about?
Expert: These models represent Ducati’s commitment to performance and innovation without sacrificing comfort and accessibility. Both bikes promise an exhilarating riding experience backed by advanced technology, making them great choices for anyone from track enthusiasts to everyday riders. Whether it’s on the racecourse or a scenic road trip, they deliver the thrill that Ducati is known for.
