The next stop was in a warmer climate, Paraguay, at a Mediterranean cathedral, which was much needed in the cold church. The tour guide this time was Augustin Barrios Mangoré, who about three hundred years ago was so impressed by the grandiose cathedral that he wrote a three-movement work about it entitled La Catedral, the first two movements of which paint the atmosphere of the church with the instruments of music, while the last draws it back with the whirlwind of the street the listener from the elevated state to the concrete. Bence Szigeti’s talent, preparation, and virtuosity were only really shown in this piece, which was sufficiently appreciated by the audience. They jumped to America with John Williams: Schindler’s List. The weighty piece is not easy to play because it is about the Holocaust – this year is the 80th anniversary of the Hungarian Holocaust – but for Péter Kiss, the performance was also made difficult by the fact that he connected this piece to the violinist István Mukli, with whom he played in the last year’s Christmas show in Barac. Since István Mukli has not been with us for a month, this performance was recommended to him by the young musician. It is not surprising that at the end of the wonderful performance, tears appeared in the eyes of the young artist who looked up after the last notes. The audience also felt and appreciated the importance of the moment, it was hard to stop expressing their approval. At the end of the show, the destination was Uruguay. Maximo Diego Pujol’s composition Nubes de Buenos Aires tried to include a characteristic candombe dance accompanied by huge drums in his piece. The performance was accompanied by a very noisy success.
At the end of the concert, before the encores – outside the script – the mayor of Várai Róbert Baracs came to the audience with a bouquet to greet Aunt Lászlóné Kati Hortyi, the sacristan of the church, the head of the Parish Caritas, the iconic person of the Zsigmond Primary School in Széchenyi, a pillar member of the 75th anniversary of the event. on his birthday. The next piece, Astor Piazzolla’s Libertango, was played for him by the two young musicians. However, the audience didn’t want to let them go even after that, so Dmitri Shostakovich: Waltz II from Jazz Suite No. 2 ended the program as another encore, before which Péter Kiss made an announcement. Every year, he holds his Christmas concert in the Baracsi village hall, to which he usually invites guests. This year, it will be different from the usual, as the location of the Christmas show will be György Böröcz’s studio room of the Bartók Chamber Theater and House of Arts on December 8, where he invited his Italian friends from Florence.
