Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Bengali Hindu community, begins on Wednesday (October 9) through Mahashasthi. The five-day long festival will end with the idol immersion on October 13 on Vijaya Dashami.

According to Ramakrishna Mission Nirghanta, Goddess Durga was invited and abode at 6 am on Wednesday. On the first day of the festival, the Shashti Puja will begin after 5 pm.

The meaning of the word Durga is vyuh or enclosed space. He protects the devotee from all the miseries that bind man, such as obstacles, fear, sorrow, grief, irritation, pain. Shastrakaras have given another meaning to Durga’s name. Durga is the one who can be gained by sorrow. Goddess tests human endurance with sorrow. When people call him without being restless, he relieves their pain.

It is mentioned in the Mahachandi that during the Treta Yuga Lord Ramachandra Dashanan fought a war with Ravana. Ramachandra worshiped Goddess Adyashakti Mahamaya in the autumn hoping to strengthen her for the destruction of sin and rescued Goddess Sita by winning the battle and killing Ravana. Since then, every year in the world in the autumn, the followers of traditional religions have been celebrating Durgotsava.

According to Loknath Panjika, the Autumn Durgotsavam will end with idol immersion on October 9 Mahasashti, October 10 Mahasaptami, October 11 Mahashtami and October 12 Mahanavami and October 13 Vijaya Dashami.

This year Goddess Durga will arrive on a float or palanquin. If the goddess comes or goes on that palanquin or dola, the result is plague. As Goddess Durga’s arrival in Martyah in 2024 is in swing, it may result in pestilence, which is not an auspicious sign. Apart from this, the goddess will travel to heaven on a ghot or a horse. According to the scriptures, if the movement or arrival of the goddess is delayed, the result is scattered. From that point of view, the result may be scattered due to Devi’s transit in 2024 being in horse.

According to the Shastras this Ghotak Gaman indicates social and political chaos. It indicates war, idolatry, Ashanti, revolution.

Elaborate preparations are often completed across the country to make the Puja joyful. The mood of the festival is now blowing all over the country. Various mandapas are resounding with the sound of brass drums and conch shells.

President of Bangladesh Puja Udyapan Parishad Vasudev Dhar said that Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of Bengali Hindus, will start from next Wednesday, which will end on October 13 with the dedication of idols. According to official estimates, Durga Puja will be celebrated in 32,666 mandaps across the country this year.

On the occasion of Durga Puja, members of the police, Ansar, BGB, RAB and other law enforcement agencies will be responsible for the security of every pujamandap in the country including the capital Dhaka. Along with police and RAB, volunteers will be on duty in almost every pavilion. A central control room will be opened at Dhakeshwari temple Melangan under the initiative of Mahanagar Sarvajanin Puja Committee.

Devotional music, distribution of clothes, distribution of Mahaprasad, aarti competition, voluntary blood donation and Vijaya procession will be held along with worship at the Dhakeswari National Temple Mandap, known as the central puja festival in the capital.

On the occasion of Durgo Festival, the leaders of Bangladesh Puja Udyapan Parishad, Mahanagar Sarvajanin Puja Udyapan Committee have wished all the citizens of the country irrespective of religion and caste including the Hindu community.
