Earth experiences warmest day on record

Such a high temperature coincides with the start of “El Niño”announced today by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), a phenomenon that represents an increase in temperatures on a global scale.

At the beginning of last June, also for the first time in a summer month, a temperature 1.5 degrees Celsius higher than pre-industrial levels was recorded.

The Copernicus Climate Change Service of the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) reported that global temperatures greater than 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels have been observed beforebut until now it was in the northern hemisphere during the winter and spring months.
