In Kazakhstan, an oil-rich Central Asian country, liquefied petroleum gas is often used as a fuel for cars.

Meanwhile, the recent increase in the price of this fuel by the Government of Kazakhstan has caused great unrest among the people. Thus the struggle erupted to condemn the rise in fuel prices.

As a result, protests in Kazakhstan’s largest city, Almaty, in the western province of Mangystov turned violent. Protesters loot the mayor’s office in Almaty. A fierce confrontation erupted between the two sides as police fired tear gas to chase them away.

As a result of the ongoing protests against the government, President Qasim Jomar Tokayev declared a two-week state of emergency in Almaty and the western province of Mangistov.

Also, despite the announcement of a reduction in the price of liquefied petroleum gas, protests and violence continue.

The government says 12 people, including police, have been killed in a series of protests and violence.

Earlier, the government of Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Askar Mamin resigned.
