BOLZANO. The investigation conducted by the Carabinieri of the Egna station into a scam in the online car sales sector ended with the complaint of an individual known for crimes against property.
The military’s work began with the report of a 55-year-old car dealer of Bulgarian origin who was the victim of a scam orchestrated through an online vehicle sales site. The scam began when the dealer found an offer for two cars offered at an extremely low market price. “After having agreed on the purchase via an application – writes the Bolzano Provincial Carabinieri Command – the trader made two bank transfers for a total of 9,500 euros. However, on the date set for the delivery, no one showed up for the appointment that should have taken place in Egna and the contact proved unattainable”.
“Thanks to the use of tracking technologies and the investigative work of the Carabinieri of Egna – continues the Carabinieri Command – it was possible to trace the beneficiary account, registered in the name of a person with specific precedents, a seventy-year-old resident in the Bergamo area, and identify the details of who was behind the fraudulent advert. Subsequent checks confirmed that the vehicles were regularly registered in the name of third parties, unrelated to the matter.” At this point, the Carabinieri invite “citizens and professionals to exercise maximum caution in online transactions, remembering the importance of carrying out accurate checks and using safe platforms and to be wary of offers that are too advantageous”.
