- Eight people are still missing, said regional governor Amr Hanafi.
The FDFA confirmed that two Swiss nationals were among the passengers. Both could be saved alive now.
Four bodies have now been found. According to official information, 44 people were initially on board the boat and 32 survivors were rescued. There were 31 tourists from different nationalities and a crew of 13 people on board. Previous reports stated 14 staff members. The governor responsible for the region, Amr Hanafi, said there were four Germans and two Swiss on board, as well as about 20 vacationers from other European countries.
The 40 metre long motor yacht “Sea Story” had been sailing in the Red Sea since Sunday. He had left Port Ghalib and was due to arrive further north in Hurghada on Friday. The crew made an emergency call early in the morning and the yacht then sank, Hanafi said.
After the accident, an extensive search for survivors in the area was launched by the Egyptian navy. Hanafi said the survivors were found near the coastal city of Marsa Alam and taken to safety by an Egyptian Armed Forces plane and frigate and given medical care.
