Mumbai : In Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde government has divided the departments of various ministers. BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis, who is the deputy chief minister, will be in charge of important departments such as home and finance. The urban development department held by Eknath in the Uddav government’s cabinet will remain under the Chief Minister.

Seven weeks ago, the Uddhav Thackeray government was brought down and a new cabinet was formed by the BJP and the opposition Shiv Sena leaders. The 18-member cabinet expansion took place this past Tuesday after Shinde was sworn in as chief minister and Fadnavis as deputy chief minister. Apart from Home Affairs and Finance, Planning Vukup is also under the BJP leader.

Revenue is handled by BJP. BJP’s own Sudhir Mungantiwar was given the forest department which he was handling earlier. Former state president Chandrakant Patil is the higher and technical education minister. He was also given the Parliamentary Affairs Department.

The education department is handled by Deepak Kesarkar, a rebel Shiv Sena leader in the Eknath Shinde camp. Agriculture was also given to Abdul Sattar.

A group of dissident MLAs headed by Eknath Shinde went to Assam to topple Uddhav Thackeray’s coalition government. With the continued support of the BJP, the Maha Vikas Aghadi government was overthrown and the Shinde government was formed.
