A 20-year-old elephant has died in the Tadagam forest in Coimbatore district. The successive deaths of elephants in areas under Coimbatore district have caused grief among wildlife activists.
Coimbatore forest officials were on regular patrol in the Tadagam forest. While patrolling the foothills of Perumalmudi, they found an elephant dead on a private plot of land near the reserve. The forest officials led by District Forest Officer Ashok Kumar, Assistant Forest Ranger Dinesh Kumar and Forest Officer Sukumar visited the spot this morning and informed that the dead elephant was about 20 years old.
Samples have been collected and sent for testing for anthrax testing on suspicion of further anthrax attack. The forest department said the dead elephant was about 20 years old and had been examined for signs of bleeding and anthrax.
