A promising career in cyclo-cross has come to a premature end for Eli Iserbyt, as the Belgian champion announced his retirement following a battle with a debilitating pelvic artery issue. The 26-year-old leaves the sport with 54 professional victories and a legacy as a dynamic, if frequently enough divisive, figure in the peloton.
IserbytS talent was evident from a young age, dominating youth championships and signaling the arrival of a future star. He secured triumphs in Heusden-Zolder and Valkenburg as a junior, narrowly missing a world title in 2015.
