Eliminating area-based subsidies would be a huge cut

The politician reminded that Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, issued a resolution entitled “Strategic Dialogue“, which summarizes the most important plans. They would like to put this into law when the new commission is formed. In the European Parliament, the debate on the package of proposals involving 387 billion euros in support has begun.

It is clearly stated in this document that they want to introduce area-based agricultural subsidies, said the representative, explaining that the system would be changed so that only a small group of farmers would receive subsidies in the future, but, for example, it is also stated in the resolution that the meat consumption, and according to Csaba Dömötör, it is not certain that they discussed this with the farmers.

The Fidesz representative stated that there are already large employers’ organizations, for example in Spain, who say that if necessary, they will take to the streets again.

According to his description, Ursula von der Leyen commissioned a German historian to draft the resolution on the reform proposals, and “the majority of the working organizations do not actually represent farmers, but other areas”.

In the interview, Csaba Dömötör pointed out that the accession of Ukraine to the European Union would be a huge competitive disadvantage for the farmers living in the current member states, because as much land would come to the union as a third of the current cropland.

“By the way, the current common agricultural policy would really not be able to handle this from the budgetary point of view, but I am of the opinion that the interests of European farmers should be looked at first, and the aspects of expansion should be looked into. Now this order has completely reversed,” said the representative.

As he said, Péter Magyar, the chairman of the Tisza Party, argued on his community page that organic farms should be supported instead of extensive production.

Csaba Dömötör added: “this is exactly the same argument that they use to get rid of area-based subsidies, so the Tisza party sided with Ursula von der Leyen, against the interests of Hungarian farmers”.

The politician put it this way: “In the European Parliament, the Tisza Party also proved in a few weeks that the political embrace of the Brussels elite has a price. They admitted in an interview, for example, that it is a kind of duty for them to align with the People’s Party position. So they have to support the new war package, the immigration policy, the cancellation of energy subsidies – they also talked about this – and, according to them, the reduction of agricultural subsidies as well.”

Csaba Dömötör added: in fact, there is nothing new in this, because Péter Magyar is continuing Momentum’s worst traditions, the only difference is that the Momentum members did not have themselves photographed so many times from so many angles, everything else is the same.

The politician emphasized: very tough debates are coming, thousands of billion HUF are at stake, it really doesn’t matter what the outcome of this debate will be, “we will be there at the negotiating tables”.
