According to Emiru, the security guard who intervened was actually part of her personal security detail.
“The security guard in the clip who reacts is my own security… My friend told me Twitch security were joking afterwards about how they did not even see what happened,” she wrote. This alleged lack of response is notably concerning given that this was not the first time emiru has experienced unwanted advances at an event. She has stated this will be her last attendance at a Twitch convention.
Twitch Responds, Claims Immediate Action
In an X post on Oct. 18, Twitch stated that “law enforcement and event security were on-site and responded to the incident.” The company further claimed that the man involved was “immediately blocked” from returning to the TwitchCon premises.
However, Emiru disputes this account, stating the man was allowed to leave the meet-and-greet area and was not apprehended for several hours after the alleged assault. “None of the TwitchCon staff came to ask what happened or if I was okay… I have no idea what anyone hired to keep the event safe was doing,” she added.
TwitchCon: A Growing Convention Facing Scrutiny
TwitchCon is a semi-annual convention organized by Twitch, providing a space for attendees to game, network, meet popular streamers, and participate in panel discussions. Inaugurated in 2015, the convention drew over 10,000 attendees to it’s 2024 iteration in Rotterdam.
