Environmental protection: Morocco’s efforts highlighted in the Dominican Republic

Speaking on the occasion of the participation of the diplomatic representation of the Kingdom in the Dominican Republic in a “Clean Beach” operation at the Boca de Nigua ecological park, 20 km from the capital of the Caribbean country, the Moroccan ambassador, Hichame Dahane, underlined the particular interest given by Morocco to the protection of the environment and the conservation of marine ecosystems.

The diplomat, who recalled the inclusion of the right to a healthy environment in the Moroccan constitution of 2011, highlighted the efforts made by Morocco, in accordance with the vision of HM King Mohammed VI, in favor of the protection of the environment, including the coastline, and sustainable development, through governance strategies and sectoral plans, indicates the Moroccan embassy in the Dominican Republic in a press release.

Mr. Dahane cited various initiatives carried out in this regard, notably the Clean Beaches program, implemented by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa.

The ambassador also highlighted the initiatives carried out by Morocco at the United Nations level, having enabled the adoption of resolutions relating to the right of access to a healthy environment, the promotion of sustainable tourism, and the integrated management of coastal areas.

Regarding the solid waste collection operation, organized by the Dominican Association of Friendship with the Kingdom of Morocco (ADAMAR), the diplomat noted that participation in such actions increases awareness of the imperative to protect and conserve the environment, particularly the coastline, for the benefit of present and future generations.

Carried out in collaboration with the Kingdom’s embassy in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Ministry of the Environment, and the Dr. Rafael M. Moscoso National Botanical Garden, this operation saw the participation of representatives of various public and private institutions as well as NGOs, in the presence of the mayor of the municipality of San Gregorio de Nigua, Jorge Ortiz Carela.

According to the press release, the ADAMAR initiative is part of the promotion of the efforts of Morocco and the Dominican Republic for the protection of the environment and sustainable development in general, and more particularly, in terms of conservation. coastal and marine ecosystems, true reservoirs of biodiversity and biological wealth.
