Preventing destruction of nature and practicing ESG
E-Mart has stepped forward to solve the desertification problem in Mongolia. E-Mart began planting trees in Terelj National Park in Mongolia on the 10th, and announced on the 15th that it plans to create tomorrow’s forest by planting a total of 15,000 trees on a 4.4-hectare site over the next five years.
This activity is part of E-Mart’s ESG management strategy and is carried out through the ‘Forest Tomorrow’ project. It is a long-term plan to respond to the climate crisis and prevent desertification in Mongolia, and reflects the reality that 76.9% of Mongolia’s territory is experiencing forest shortage problems. E-Mart worked with the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO) and Future Forest, an incorporated association, to select and plant trees suitable for Mongolia. Representative examples include Kuju pine, Siberian apricot, and Goebul tree.
In this project, 40 local E-Mart Mongolian store employees voluntarily participated in planting trees. They are carrying out volunteer work at four stores in Mongolia, contributing to raising E-Mart’s eco-friendly image in the local community.
E-Mart is raising the necessary resources to create tomorrow’s forest by donating a portion of toilet paper sales to No Brand Tree Planting. Through this, customers can naturally participate in creating a green forest.
In addition, E-Mart is continuing various forest restoration activities at home and abroad. Last April, we began forest restoration by planting 1,000 trees in the area affected by the Gangneung forest fire. In addition, we plan to continue to operate forest volunteer activities and forest welfare programs.
An E-Mart official said, “Forest Tomorrow is an important axis of E-Mart’s long-term ESG project. “We will continue to contribute to the climate crisis and biodiversity conservation through various forest creation activities,” he said.
