The President of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee,Aqeel Muftin,visited the Holy Governorate of Karbala. During the visit,he met with the Governor of Karbala,Nassif Jassim al-Khattabi,and was briefed on the sporting and structural reality in the governorate.
Muftin confirmed in a statement to the Olympic Committee received by the (INA) that he “agreed with Al-Khattabi to establish the largest Olympic sports center in Iraq in the governorate, similar to the experience of the Aspire World Center in the Qatari capital, Doha, where it will be established as soon as possible and on an area ”Wide.”
He explained, “The Olympic Center will include a large hotel, modern stadiums, and Olympic sports halls specialized in many games that the Iraqi sports infrastructure lacks.”
He pointed out that “the great urban development and advanced infrastructure witnessed by the Holy karbala Governorate, in addition to the efforts to open its international airport and distinguished hotels, will contribute greatly to the establishment of the Olympic Sports Center, which will serve as an vital planning station for all national teams in all sporting events during the coming period of time.” “It makes it an anticipated future Olympic capital close to the capital, Baghdad.”
He praised “the great support provided by the Governor of Karbala to the champion athletes in all games, and also his great support and continuous sponsorship of the Karbala Sports Club,” noting that “Holy Karbala will be the capital of Olympic sports after the Olympic Sports Center is built quickly.”
For his part, the Governor of Holy Karbala, Nassif Jassim Al-Khattabi, praised “the rapid pace and great renaissance witnessed by Iraqi sports,” stressing that he “discussed the sporting reality with the President of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee, and the necessary means that must be available to advance the sport of high achievement, develop the capabilities of Iraqi athletes, and provide the necessary support to achieve success.” The best achievements in foreign participation at all levels.”

A: Our focus will be on sports where Iraq has the potential for high achievement. This includes sports like football, athletics, and gymnastics.
