The European Union (EU) has expressed interest in investing in the leather industry of Bangladesh. Delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh Head of Development Cooperation Dr. Mihal Kreiza, Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office. Tofazzal Hossain expressed this interest during a courtesy meeting with Mia.

During the meeting on Wednesday (March 27), they discussed various aspects of the potential of the leather industry in Bangladesh.

Dr. Mihal Kreija expressed interest in EU’s cooperation in the reconstruction, development and solid waste disposal of the Dhaka Tannery Industrial State (Savar Tannery) located at Savar.

He also expressed interest in EU funding for the design and construction of a new Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) in Bangladesh. He also mentioned the cooperation of the European Investment Bank with the relevant departments including the Ministry of Industry of Bangladesh in financing the leather industry and other issues.

The Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister expressed special thanks to the Delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh for showing interest in the development of this industry and assured the full cooperation of the Prime Minister’s Office in the overall activities of the European Union with the relevant ministries and offices of Bangladesh.

The Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister said that after the garment industry, the leather industry has huge potential in Bangladesh. He said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has always attached special importance to the technical and other cooperation of the European Union for the development of the leather industry in Bangladesh.
