In the past few days, the police have made mass arrests at universities, using tear gas and tasers to disperse protesters.

“What started two days ago as a student protest has been infiltrated by professional organizers with no connection to Northeastern University,” criticized the university in Boston, a historic city in the northeastern United States that is also home to prestigious Harvard.

For his part, the rector of Columbia, the heart of the New York movement, indicated that he had resigned from the police in New York (NYPD) evacuating the camp installed on his campus to “no more inflammation” make the case.

However, one of the leaders, Khymani James, was barred from entering the university campus. In a video released in January James said that “Zionists do not deserve to live.” The young man later apologized.

In California, Humboldt Polytechnic University announced that it would close the campus until the end of the semester, and that work would continue remotely after several attempts this week to “break into multiple buildings.”

At the University of Pennsylvania, its president ordered a camp disbanded after saying there were “credible reports of harassing and intimidating behavior.”

Last October 7, Palestinian militants attacked Israel, killing about 1,170 people, according to an AFP count based on official Israeli figures. They also took about 250 people hostage. Israel estimates that 129 remain in Gaza, including 34 who have died.
