Brussels: European Union member states and the European Parliament have reached an agreement to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2035. The aim is to reduce the emission of gases that cause global warming.

Pascal Canfin, chair of the European Parliament’s environment committee, said ahead of the UN climate change summit that the European Union is committed to clear legislation to combat climate change.

The goal is to completely eliminate carbon emissions by 2050. Meanwhile, the environmental organization Greenpeace said that the deadline of 2035 is not enough and should be banned by at least 2028.
