Brussels: European Commission President Ursula Vanderlaine has welcomed Ukraine’s and Moldova’s bid to join the European Union. The issue will be discussed at the European Union summit next week.

“The interest of the Ukrainian people in making the European dream a reality is changing their outlook on the region,” she said, wearing a blazer emblazoned with the Ukrainian flag. The political map of Europe will also have to change. The move is in stark contrast to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s goal of invading Ukraine.

Putin responded that Ukraine had no objection to joining the European Union. He said diplomatic relations with all countries would be restored as soon as the military operation in Ukraine is completed.

Ukraine’s application to join the European Union comes on the fourth day after Russian troops crossed the border last February. Moldova and Georgia then applied. Bulgaria is one of the poorest countries in the European Union. The situation in these 3 countries is even worse. With membership, Ukraine will become the largest country in the European Union by area. Third in population.

Meanwhile, the war inside Ukraine continues unabated. There is heavy resistance in Russia to prevent Russia’s advance in Siverodonetsk.
