Even without Kane’s goal: England wins in Finland

England has found its way back to success after the surprising defeat against Greece. In Finland, Harry Kane‘s team struggled for a long time – and so did the captain himself.

Three days after the historic home defeat against Greece, vice-European champions England have rehabilitated themselves. The “Three Lions” won the Nations League in Finland – again with their captain Harry Kane – 3-1 (1-0).

But they were only convincing at times. However, interim coach Lee Carsley’s team was also a bit lucky as the hosts missed several great chances.

Jack Grealish gave England an early lead after a clever pass from Angel Gomes (18th). After the break, Augsburg’s Fredrik Jensen missed the excellent opportunity to equalize (57′), before Trent Alexander-Arnold made the decision with a free kick from 20 meters into the corner (74′). Declan Rice made it 3-0 (84′), Arttu Hoskonen scored late for the Finns (87′).

Bayern striker Kane, who was rested due to a minor injury in the first ever defeat against Greece (1:2) on Thursday, came away empty-handed in his 101st international match.

England initially closed on points in Group B2 to leaders Greece, who will face Ireland later in the evening (from 8:45 p.m. in the t-online live ticker).
