Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Chairman Khandkar Rashed Maqsud said, everyone’s dream, the capital market will be the focal point of the country’s economy and at the same time a source of long-term financing. To this end, all stakeholders have to work together with the regulatory body BSEC to build a prosperous and successful capital market.

He said these things in an exchange meeting with new board members and top officials at Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) head office on Monday (October 21). BSEC Executive Director and Spokesperson Mohammad Rezaul Karim signed this information in the press release.

The chairman of BSEC said that the problems in the capital market should be resolved, which may not be possible quickly. The most important thing is reform. This reform work cannot be done alone. That’s why everyone’s opinion is being taken and gradually these reforms will be done in a systematic way within the law and rules.

In the meeting held at the CSE office in Chittagong BSEC Commissioner Mohsin Chowdhury, Md. Senior officials including Ali Akbar and Farzana Lalarukh and the new board members led by Chittagong Stock Exchange Chairman AKM Habibur Rahman, Managing Director M Saifur Rahman Majumder and other top officials were present.

A presentation was made by CSE in the meeting. In the presentation, detailed information about the current infrastructure, manpower, activities including current status, future prospects, challenges, to-do etc. of CSE is highlighted. After the presentation, various issues related to the country’s capital market were discussed openly in the meeting. At this time, various issues including commodity exchange, commodity derivatives, reforms came up for discussion.

A separate meeting of BSEC is also held with trackholder companies of CSE and local stakeholders. At this time, the representatives of trackholder companies presented their various views to the BSEC and expressed their hope for a strong and prosperous capital market in the country in the future.

Various capital market reform proposals including ensuring good governance in the market, improving investor confidence, reforming public issues and margin rules came up in the discussion. At this time, the Commissioners along with the Chairman of BSEC listened to the proposals attentively and took necessary steps to reform with overall consideration.
