‘The Kashmir Files’, released in 2022, and ‘The Kerala Story’, released in 2023, made a splash at the box office. Both the films were focused on a particular ideology, a particular type of audience. There was controversy over both the films, its echo was heard from the Censor Board to the streets of politics. But by 2024, such efforts more or less seem to be failing. In the first three months of the year, Yami Gautam’s ‘Article 370’ and Adah Sharma’s ‘Bastar: The Naxal Story’ of the same genre were released. Of these, ‘Article 370’ has somehow taken the title of hit, but the condition of ‘Bastar’ is bad. It is interesting that Urvashi Rautela’s ‘JNU’ is also being brought to the audience dipped in the same syrup, the teaser of which was released on Tuesday itself. Now call it the changing thinking of the audience or the excitement regarding the subject, in terms of earnings. However, due to lack of competition in theatres, this film has slowly but surely earned more than three times its budget. But it is still impossible for it to join the Rs 100 crore club.
It is now difficult to enter Rs 100 crore for ‘Article 370’
According to the report of sacnilk, ‘Article 370’, based on the story of removal of Article 370 from Kashmir, has made a total net collection of Rs 73.04 crore in 26 days. On Tuesday, the 26th day, this film has done a business of Rs 33 lakh. The condition of the film’s worldwide earnings is also similar. For the last four days, this film is standing at the threshold of Rs 100 crore club at the global box office, but is still stuck at Rs 99 crore.
Audience rejected ‘Bastar: The Naxal Story’
On the other hand, the trio of ‘The Kerala Story’ i.e. producer Vipul Shah, director Sudipto Sen and actress Adah Sharma have also had to face defeat this time. His ‘Bastar: The Naxal Story’, which released on Friday, has earned only Rs 2.46 crore in five days. This film, which earned Rs 75 lakh on the opening day, has done a business of Rs 21 lakh on Tuesday.
