An ex-militant was rescued from Tandhamalai forest patch under Pattipalai area of Batticaloa district on Wednesday (08.03.2023) and handed over to the hospital.
Abandoned by his family for the past 4 years, Bala, an ex-militant, has been living in a remote shed in the forest outside the village of Redpana in Thanthamalai region due to mental illness.
Members of the Democratic Militant Party and his fellow ex-militants approached him about the incident. On seeing them, Bala would disappear into the katu area.
Since then they have been observing him continuously day and night. Later, with the help of his relatives, and the local village sevakar, with the help of the Regional Health Services Director of Batticaloa, an ambulance was brought to the appropriate place and he was sent to the hospital for treatment.
Until now he has been living by eating the fruits of the forest. We changed him into new clothes and sent another person to look after him from the hospital. Nagules from the Democratic Militant Party said.
