Nurit Gefen, the ex-wife of the late poet and cultural figure Yonatan Gefen, commented today (Sunday) on the rumors surrounding his death. “I am amused by the rumor that he committed suicide,” she said on the “Coming in Time” podcast. “Two weeks ago he told me he was happy. He had never said that word before.”

“Not only did he not commit suicide, he was waiting to tell. Within a month, a new book is coming out that is his baby. I’m lucky that he saw David Polonsky’s illustrations, he loved his illustrations so much,” she added. “The proofreading was already done, Shira did a final proofreading. He waited. He didn’t want to die, he wanted the book.”

According to her, the full circumstances of Geffen’s death have not yet been clarified. “We don’t know when he died. Monday night? Tuesday? We don’t know. They took the body to Abu Kabir because he fell and got hit,” she said. “But the doctor, Shlomo Segev, Aviv’s doctor, he calmed me down, because I said to him, ‘What, he was lying like that and in pain and was alone?’, so he told me, ‘Listen, or he had a cardiac arrest, so he died straight away, You have nothing to worry about. And if he even had a stroke, then you lose consciousness, and even then he didn’t suffer. I think he didn’t suffer when he was on the floor.”
