Fabiola Martinez is very clear about the effort required to care for a person with a disability. For 16 years she has been a mother of Kike, his son who was born with cerebral palsy. “Many times we focus on the person who has the disability and society forgets the role of the caregiver. With Kike I don’t think about the future, I have learned to live day to day” explains Fabiola Martínez.
Next to her, Irene Villa has been in charge of organizing a round table on a study prepared by Oral-B titled ‘Oral health and disability in Spain’, which shows data such as that only 5% of people feel that society understands the struggle that caring for their oral health entails for them.
For Irene Villa, “events like today put us on the map and they help society to be more aware that not all of us have the same possibilities, we also have to do our job, which is to jump over our own barriers.”
This study has been the basis for the project ‘Let’s reconsider to train’which was born with the aim of making oral care more inclusive, accessible and positive for people with disabilities and their caregivers.
Valeria Conti is general director of Oral Care at Oral-B: “This campaign, created in collaboration with the Spanish Dental Foundation (FDE) and the Spanish Society of Odontostomatology for patients with special needs (SEOENE) comes to give visibility to people with disabilities and to reflect on all the challenges they have to face in relation to their oral health,” says Valeria.

The three are ambassadors of this project and are clear that they must work to ensure that the oral care be accessible to everyone.
