The government will face the deputies from this Wednesday, May 24, for a period of five days, Sunday and Monday of Pentecost being excluded. Christian Ntsay will present his government’s activity report to Tsimbazaza during this first parliamentary session.

For the deputies, this will be an opportunity to make up for the missed meeting of the last parliamentary session and to charge the government with their frustrations which do not date from yesterday. The Prime Minister who will start the session this Wednesday morning will have a lot to do. Faced with fiery deputies close to the regime, the dissidents of the IRD and those of the opposition, the debates promise to be stormy. During the last parliamentary session in December 2022, the government was the subject of a motion of censure, which was admittedly aborted but still shook the political class in power. The current political situation, in particular the preparations for the presidential election this year, should not facilitate the tasks of the executive either. Among the hot spots that will be at the heart of the debates, the preparation of the presidential election and the games of the islands of the Indian Ocean, the state of the national roads…

Four ministers will be called to the bar of the National Assembly today, the Minister of National Defense and the Minister of Public Security followed by the Secretary of State in charge of the National Gendarmerie. Undoubtedly, security issues will be on the agenda of this meeting. The atmosphere is already announced to be inflamed, especially since the subject is currently at the heart of all discussions because of the insecurity that is rife in the four corners of the island.

In the afternoon, it will be the turn of two other sovereign ministries, Foreign Affairs and Justice. Major questions relating to the sovereignty of the country are expected, such as the case of the restitution of the Scattered Islands. The negotiations remain in abeyance, indeed for France, cooperation concerning scientific studies is envisaged, but there is no question of co-management and even less of restitution. Then there are the questions about the fight against corruption which plagues the Ministry of Justice.
