“Fake News”: This is how the spokesperson for the Cypriot MFA describes in the attached audio interview the false allegations against Moroccan security officials

Rome – “Fake news” and “baseless”: these are the words used by Theodoros Gotsis, spokesperson for the Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to describe the allegations of issuing arrest warrants against security officials Moroccans, relayed by certain media and the official Algerian press agency APS.

In a telephone statement to MAP available on the agency’s official website, the spokesperson for Cypriot diplomacy insisted that “the competent authorities of Cyprus, that is to say the judicial services and the police, confirm that these allegations are completely unfounded.

“No criminal cases and no arrest warrants have been issued against the persons referred to in the said media,” he added.

In a dispatch entitled “Senior Moroccan security officials are the subject of an international arrest warrant”, published on January 16, 2024, the APS relied on false information relayed by a Moroccan national who had subject to conviction by the Italian courts for fraud offenses.
