Family Welfare Authority partners with Equestrian Federation to launch equine therapy service in Abu Dhabi for mental health treatment

The Family Welfare Authority signed a memorandum of understanding with the Equestrian and Racing Federation to launch an equine therapy service, within the mental health services provided by the Authority, in a new step within its efforts to expand the scope of its various services. Under this partnership, the Federation will provide the necessary resources to the Authority to achieve this, by providing horses. And stables, and expertise in raising and dealing with horses, and bringing in experts to train the Authority’s psychologists to use them in treating psychological problems. This will pave the way for the creation of a new service within the psychological treatment and trauma treatment services with the help of pets, specifically horses, and integrating them into the Family Care Authority’s services.
On this occasion, Dr. Bushra Al-Mulla, Director General of the Family Welfare Authority, expressed her happiness with this cooperation, and said: “Our partnership with the Equestrian Federation will allow the integration of an innovative service into the various services of the Family Welfare Authority, as it will enable us to provide psychological support to the community of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, using best practices.” “This type of psychotherapy has shown remarkable results in improving psychological and emotional health and treating trauma in individuals, and we are confident that this treatment will constitute a valuable addition to our services at the Family Care Authority.”
She added: “We are pleased to conclude this partnership with the Equestrian Federation, which provides us with the resources, resources, training of cadres and specialized expertise necessary to provide the equine therapy service in the Family Care Authority. The benefits of this partnership are not limited to this service only, as it represents a long-term commitment to provide more services.” And innovative and effective treatment methods to our community.”

For his part, Professor Andres Levoha, professor of psychology and psychotherapy, and expert in equine therapy, said that adding the equine therapy service to the Family Welfare Authority’s services constitutes an important step to achieve its goals of improving mental health and enhancing community wellness, pointing out that horses have a unique ability to communicate. Deep interaction with humans contributes to healthy emotional growth and the development of self-awareness among those undergoing this type of treatment.
He stressed that harnessing this unique ability of horses will enable the Family Care Authority to help individuals for whom traditional treatment methods did not achieve the desired results, through new, innovative and feasible treatment methods, during their journey of recovery from psychological problems and overcoming the emotional traumas they may have been exposed to.
It is noteworthy that Professor Andres arrived in Abu Dhabi from the United Kingdom to provide a workshop and training program on equine therapy that will last for several days for the Family Welfare Authority’s psychologists, to guide them to the best practices in using horses to treat beneficiaries.
This cooperation is the beginning of many initiatives and programs planned to be launched within this partnership, the parties of which are committed to contributing to improving the mental health of community members, through an innovative treatment approach using horses.
