On Sunday morning, Nikos Faradouris spoke about the unpleasant climate in SYRIZA after the images that emerged at the Saturday Central Committee meeting that decided to exclude Stefanos Kasselakis as a presidential candidate.
“The images are not pleasant, the atmosphere is unpleasant and any attempt to idealize it is unfair. It does injustice to the history of the left, a party that commits offense and sacrifice throughout the time in the place. Many of the images we see that sadden us, some of us warned that they could have been avoided,” the SYRIZA presidential candidate told SKAI.
At the same time, he considered that “if SYRIZA is not able to redeem itself from its father, its historical leader, then things are very difficult for SYRIZA. I believe that the Alexis Tsipras he wants to see his spiritual child emancipated and not in need of a father’s affection.”

According to Mr. Faradouris, “what is urgent is for the situation to return to normality. The offer of criticism and many things could be avoided with political ability and political initiatives to get out of the crisis.”
Referring to the decision of the Central Committee, he said that it “gives the framework for nominations to the congress and the elections. From then on, the congress is the highest body of the party and anyone can propose anything. However, the decisions made by the Council of Ministers yesterday are the framework in which we will proceed from now on”.
“My opponent is not my party partner. What our space needs is gravity and cascade. What our space needs is restraint in our way and our speech,” continued Mr. Farandouris.
Regarding the exclusion of Kasselakis, Nikos Farandouris said that “I would prefer Mr. Kasselakis and anyone who I think meets the specifications to lead a modern left-wing party with history and the burden of historical responsibility at this time of the official opposition, to run for president. I would prefer the political discussion to have the upper hand and not be overshadowed by the issues that have arisen in the past year.”
