The Astorina publishing house, which publishes the books of the character created by the Giussani sisters, gave the news. Facciolo had been working on the masked hero since 1963

One of the designers who made the history of Italian popular comics passed away for years: Enzo Facciolo, the pencil to whom we owe the strips of «Diabolik», was 89 years old. The Astorina publishing house, which publishes the books of the character created by Angela Giussani (1922-1987) and her sister Luciana (1928-2001), announced his death. “Diabolik” had landed on newsstands in November 1962. Facciolo, from Milan, after having made his debut in 1959, had worked on the masked hero since 1963: it was he who, in fact, developed the graphic rendering of the characters who still animate Dabolik’s stories. , starting with the protagonist and Eva Kant, after the first nine issues whose drawings had not convinced the Giussani sisters. «It is a day of grave mourning for us: Maestro Enzo Facciolo has left us. He was – we read on the publisher’s homepage – a fundamental figure in Diabolik’s story, but today we want to remember him above all for his kindness and availability. Anyone who has known him knows that he was one of the last gentlemen. It leaves a great void in all of us at Astorina. (…) Goodbye Enzo »(in the image, the table with his portrait with which the Astorina website celebrates him).
