FBI keeps looking for Gabby Petito – friend gone too

by time news

In the mysterious case of Gabby Petito, who is missing in the USA, the search for the 22-year-old has continued. The FBI took a close look at the soil in Grand Teton National Park in the US state of Wyoming over the weekend. Meanwhile, the Florida police were looking for Petito’s friend, who has also disappeared. The 23-year-old was reported missing by his family on Friday. On the weekend, emergency services combed a wildlife sanctuary in Florida.

Petito and her boyfriend had set out on a trip to the USA in the summer – only the young woman’s boyfriend returned. The case is making waves in the US – not least because Petito and her boyfriend shared numerous pictures and videos from their trip on social networks. It shows a happy couple. On September 1, the boyfriend came back home in Florida alone, according to police, ten days later Petito’s parents reported their daughter as missing. On Tuesday, Petito’s friend is said to have broken into the Carlton Reserve, the family told the police. Why they only reported the young man missing on Friday remained open.

Petito’s friend had been silent on his return. The friend was a “person of interest” in connection with Petito’s disappearance, but he was not wanted for a crime, the investigators said. Petito’s family accused the 23-year-old of hiding. CNN quoted the family lawyer Richard Stafford as saying that he was not missing. North Port Florida police said over the weekend that reports of a body found on the Carlton Reservation were false.

The FBI focused on finding Gabby. The Grand Teton National Park is particularly in focus. The last time Gabby’s family had contact with her, she was said to have been there. The officials are investigating the area around a campsite in the park. “The area is closed to the public and will remain so until the investigation is completed,” it said. Anyone who was there between August 27 and 30 and saw Gabby, her boyfriend or her vehicle should report to the FBI.

There are more than just beautiful pictures of the couple’s trip in their converted delivery van. Recordings from a police body camera from mid-August show a completely dissolved Petito. The police were called on a possible domestic violence case at the time. Petito says in the one-hour video that she suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder and that an argument broke out. She also slapped her boyfriend in the face. The couple then agreed to spend the next night separately.
