FC Bayern’s season ends on a happy note by winning the championship. Nevertheless, the club is reacting to the disappointments of the past few months. Oliver Kahn and sports director Hasan Salihamidzic have to go.
AEven after the end of the season, those responsible at FC Bayern have no time for vacation. On the contrary: The club is likely to change significantly in the new week – with an impact on German football.
The board of directors of the record champions meets on Tuesday in the Munich stadium. The eagerly awaited meeting was originally supposed to be about the work and future of CEO Oliver Kahn, 53, and sports director Hasan Salihamidzic, 46. According to “Bild”, it should have been clear since Friday that the record champions will no longer start the new season with the two.
After the many quarrels and sporting lows this season and the mixed development of the club in his two-year tenure so far, Kahn in particular has been criticized. He didn’t watch the game in Cologne in the stadium – because of flu, according to club circles. Salihmadzic, on the other hand, sat in the stands and celebrated the surprising championship.
Dreesen should do it
Club President Herbert Hainer, 68, had recently avoided making any commitments to senior executives. The meeting of the supervisory board originally planned for last Monday is so sensitive and important that the club postponed it at short notice after the end of the season. Apparently there was already an extraordinary meeting on Friday, at which the verdict on Kahn and Salihamidzic was made.
Jan-Christian Dreesen, 55, who presented Bayern with the championship trophy yesterday, is considered the successor candidate for the office of club boss. It is still unclear who could follow Salihamidzic.
In addition to Honorary President Uli Hoeneß, the Supervisory Board includes seven people, the body is all male. Hainer is the chairman. The other members: Markus Duesmann, Audi CEO, Thorsten Langheim, Deutsche Telekom Board Member, Werner Zedelius, Allianz Senior Advisor, Jan Heinemann, General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer at Adidas, and Edmund Stoiber, former Prime Minister of Bavaria. D., and Bayern Vice President Dieter Mayer. Adidas, Audi and Allianz each hold 8.33 percent of FC Bayern Munich AG.
