Mockery for the Bavarian Prime Minister. He caused a stir with his statements about nuclear policy. Now Markus Söder is facing headwinds.
The FDP sharply criticizes CSU leader Markus Söder’s latest proposals on nuclear policy. “Apparently he knows nothing about the existence of the European electricity market. There is no other explanation for his absurd proposal to subsidize the operation of foreign power plants with German tax money,” said FDP energy expert Lukas Köhler to the newspaper “Augsburger Allgemeine” according to the preliminary report. “Markus Söder proves once again that his politics are better served in festival tents than in serious debates.”
Söder had previously described the shutdown of the three remaining German nuclear power plants as a mistake and recently brought up possible nuclear cooperation with France and the Czech Republic in order to reduce energy prices.
The FDP sees this as a misjudgment of the market economy and the existing EU energy trade: Germany is part of the European electricity market. If it is cheaper to import energy from abroad, then this is already happening today from the networks of our European neighbors. And if it’s worth it for German energy suppliers, they export electricity across the borders. “Actually a very simple principle of the market economy,” said Köhler.
