Federal Elections | All judicial recounts are complete

by time news

(Ottawa) Elections Canada said on Friday that a recount in the federal riding of Davenport in Toronto had been halted and the re-election of the Liberal MP was now confirmed.

It was the last judicial recount in the country following the general elections on September 20.

The New Democrats had called for a count in this riding where the Liberal candidate was ahead of her NDP rival Alejandra Bravo by only 76 votes.

The recount was finally stopped after it became clear, during the counting of the votes, that the outcome would be the same. As a result, Julie Dzerowicz, who has been a Liberal MP for Davenport since 2015, is officially re-elected.

Earlier this week, the Bloc Québécois also interrupted the judicial recount in Brome-Missisquoi, confirming the victory of Liberal candidate Pascale St-Onge. Bloc Québécois Marilou Alarie came in second with just 197 votes behind on September 20.

All the results of this early federal election are therefore now officially confirmed by Elections Canada: the Liberals won 160 seats, the Conservatives 119, the Bloc 32, the New Democrats 25 and the Greens two seats.
