Speaking on this occasion, Ali Abdel Raouf, professor of architecture and urban planning at Hamad Ibn Khalifa University in Qatar, stressed that the organization of a global event like the World Cup is of particular importance because of its festive character, adding that this event will have a positive impact on the countries and cities that will have this privilege.
In his presentation entitled “Morocco’s organization of the World Cup and development opportunities: lessons learned from the Qatari experience”, Mr. Abdel Raouf, also an advisory member in the design of the urban vision for the preparation of the Qatar at the 2022 World Cup highlighted the role of sport as a driver of development, saying the World Cup offers the opportunity to promote tourism, strengthen tourism and sports infrastructure, and encourage transport sustainable public.
The Qatari expert highlighted the experience of Qatar, “which successfully transformed the hosting of the 2022 World Cup into a sustainable action with an impact on the life of society and future generations”.
In a statement to MAP, Abdelghani Achkar, Acting Director of the Institute of Sports Sciences and Vice-President of Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdallah University, affirmed that the Institute which is engaged in the organization of scientific, cultural and sporting activities, intends to enlighten, through this meeting, students and to enrich their knowledge by welcoming speakers, personalities and players from sport, thus covering various fields.
He added that these meetings provide a valuable opportunity for students of sports management and administration, to understand and learn about the preparations necessary before and during the organization of events such as the World Cup but also to take advantage of the sporting legacy left after the holding of such events.
