JAKARTA – YouTube has begun verifying health content in the UK, to combat the rise of hoaxes. Successful applicants will be given a special badge under their name.

This is to identify them as genuine and licensed health workers. Quoted from BBC News, Saturday (9/9/2023) Dr Simi Adedeji, a YouTuber who focuses on skin health and women’s health, said that professional health workers are validated through a strict process based on YouTube’s collaboration with the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (AoMRC) and the NHS , as well as other stakeholders such as the Royal College of Nursing.

YouTubers must have an active medical license, and must not post any videos that contain disinformation. YouTubers who break the rules, could potentially lose their validation status, or even their YouTube account.

However, the content from these YouTubers is only intended for educational purposes. Not to replace the role of a doctor.

Now, when people search for health topics on YouTube, the first search results that will appear are topics related to “health”.

List of videos explicitly labeled as coming from health sources. The videos that fill the list come from official sources that have been validated by YouTube. This effort was taken to combat hoaxes surrounding the world of health.

As is known, in 2022, videos related to health were watched more than three billion times in the UK via the platform Youtube .
