The governing Social Democrats of Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin lost the parliamentary elections in Finland on Sunday. The conservative National Coalition Party came out on top in Finland’s parliamentary elections for the first time in twelve years. Marin has now announced that he is leaving the Social Democrat party leadership, reports “YLE News”. She announced that she would still remain in the party as a “backroom deputy”.
Her successor will be elected at the next party congress in September. “I have had the great honor of leading the Board of Directors for the past four years. These times were extraordinarily difficult. It has to be said frankly that my own stamina and resilience have also been tested over the years,” Marin said at a press conference. She said she informed now to give possible candidates time to consider a possible candidacy for the party presidency.
